Elementally Resolved Dissolution Kinetics of a Ni-Fe-Cr-Mn-Co Multi-Principal Element Alloy in Sulfuric Acid Using AESEC-EIS

Atomic emission spectroelectrochemistry (AESEC) combined with linear sweep voltammetry (LSV) and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) provided insights on both active passive dissolution of Ni-Fe-Cr-Mn-Co multi-principal element alloy. Elemental rates measured by AESEC during open circuit experiment were in agreement those extrapolated from AESEC-LSV indicated element-specific tendencies. AESEC-EIS at potential showed nearly in-phase elemental modulation which suggests direct the alloy surface to electrolyte. In domain, no oscillation rate was detected AESEC-EIS, suggesting non-oxidative chemical outer layer film. this case, film/electrolyte interface equal metal oxidation (passive current density) metal/passive film density independent potential.

Ni-Cr-Fe alloy specimens were fatigued in a hydrochloric acid solution cell at pH 5.6 ±0.1. Results show that the number of surface slip bands forming, extending, and widening increased with the number of cycles. Results also indicated that, initially, cracks initiated as transgranular features but took on intergranular forms as the number of cycles increased.
